An initiative to give the people of Costa Mesa a voice in deciding future “significant” changes in Fairview Park has been endorsed by a local grassroots organization, Costa Mesans for Responsible Government.
Fairview Park Preservation Alliance President Dr. Richard Mehren made the announcement. “We’re appreciative of the CM4RG endorsement to help us push toward our goal of collecting 7,000 signatures by the end of March,” Mehren said.
According to Mehren construction is already planned by the City that would degrade the biological and archeological resources and take away the open space that many appreciate.
Examples of projects that would not be allowed without Costa Mesans’ voter approval are: sport fields, parking lots and playgrounds.
Restoration of bluff tops and vernal pools, maintenance of existing amenities and educational tours and programs would be permitted.
Anyone can help collect signatures, but signers must be registered Costa Mesa voters. Contact information is 949-515-4598 and fairviewparkalliance.org.
